Stephen Moyer set for TV adaptation of ‘Sound of Music’

True Blood star Stephen Moyer will take on Christopher Plummer’s iconic role in The Sound of Music for an upcoming TV revamp of the classic movie musical.

Moyer will play single father of seven Capt. Georg Von Trapp opposite Carrie Underwood’s nun-turned-governess Maria in the one-off television special, which will air in America at the end of the year.

Moyer’s casting comes just weeks after he hit the stage as Chicago’s Billy Flynn for a three-night run of the musical at the Hollywood Bowl.

The three-hour television production of The Sound of Music will be based on the original 1959 Broadway show, which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. Oscars bosses Neil Meron and Craig Zadan will executive produce the special.
